The Myth of Hypnosis

The myth of hypnosis or what HYPNOSIS is NOT explains the truth about hypnosis and what it cannot do and what it can.  Many people think that hypnosis is a state where one is “charmed” into doing anything the hypnotist suggest.  Here are top 5 myths of hypnosis and the truth behind each myth.

Hypnosis Myth 1: The hypnotist can control your mind and what you do once you look into the hypnotist’s eyes or object the hypnotist hold on to, usually the pendulum clock.

The truth is hypnosis is a state where the hypnotist gives you a suggestions, and you are aware of what is happening at all time, and it is totally up to you to take on the suggestion or rejects them.  Hypnosis state is just like when you are watching a movie, you know you are watching a movie, and one may get emotional during heartbreaking part of the movie and cries.  At all time, though you are immersed in the movie, you are very aware that you are indeed watching a movie, however, your emotions are tied in to the scenes or chapters of the stories, which evoke your crying.

Hypnosis Myth 2: It is dangerous to be hypnotized as I may be stuck there and may not be able to snap out of it.

The truth is hypnosis is a very safe state as it is a state of hyper awareness.  One can easily snap out of hypnosis state naturally just by opening their eyes or stretching from the state.

Hypnosis Myth 3: Hypnosis is like black magic or voodoo.

Hypnosis is a natural state that everyone of us experienced, just that we are not aware of it.  Like when we are on auto pilot driving, daily drive to our work, we are sometimes not aware what  we did along the way, we have reached the destination.  Hypnotherapy is based on many years of clinical researches done by psychologists like Dr Carl Jung, Dr Milton Erickson and may more.

Hypnosis Myth 4: Hypnosis is the Miracle Cure

The truth is hypnotherapy to improve oneself is a process and the time taken varies from individual on how willingly he or she wants the change.  Hypnotherapy can help you remove bad behaviour or habit if you choose to.  Do not expect miracle cure or immediate cure with hypnosis as it is a process where the hypnotist help you work with your subconcsious mind.

Hypnosis Myth 5: When hypnotized, you will lose part of the memory that the hypnotist gets you to forget

The truth is you are 100% aware of what is happening during the hypnotherapy session. You have the power to choose or not to choose to follow the suggestions of the hypnotists.  You may however experienced higher state of awareness and focus during the hypnotherapy sessions.  That is why with constant practise or sessions, one can improve on their memory skills with hypnotherapy.
